Case Study
The Isis Room
Oxford Visuals has been providing audio visual equipment to Oxford University and specifically Oxford University Computing Services for 15 years, and the recently refurbished Isis Room benefits from leading edge technologies in projection and control. The benefits are to both the presenter, who can quickly and intuitively control a variety of sources, and the audience who can receive and understand information clearly and quickly. The room has three projection points, one to an interactive SmartBoard which the presenter can annotate and control live on screen, and two on the large white wall. There are many combinations the presenters find useful, suitable for large and small groups, both practical and theoretical.
The heart of the control system is the AMX colour touch screen which selects input sources, and then sends them to the relevant screen. Audio and lighting control is also included, which can be set to manual or automatic depending on the individual circumstances. The system is designed to be easily used and understood by non academic staff or visiting presenters. We believe the use of the equipment should be easy, worry free, and secondary to the business of giving the presentation or lecture.
The Isis Room equipment includes:

Oxford Visuals has also equipped the other three lecture rooms with twin projection and interactive SmartBoard, which has greatly enhanced the teaching style and ease of understanding. The added flexibility encourages greater interaction between student and presenter so improving the overall learning experience. The other lecture rooms were equipped with this facility in 2003 and 2004 as the rolling programme of refurbishment took place.
The provision of a switching matrix allows any input source to be directed where required, giving the presenter a great deal of flexibility in media display. This is a common feature across these rooms. The Department benefits from having very similar equipment throughout, so moving rooms and holding a course across any of the four facilities does not raise an issue for staff or delegates.
We have also supplied and installed many Departments with projection equipment over the years. Some examples are:
